WorkFirst Programs
Lower Columbia College has programs designed to help you keep a job or get a better one! If you are involved in the WorkFirst program currently or within the past two years, our office has resources for you.
What is WorkFirst?
WorkFirst is a Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) program. LCC partners with DSHS to offer education and training programs for families receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) currently or within the past two years.
WorkFirst Financial Aid (WFFA)
Need help paying for classes? You may be able to get help through this program. It pays for tuition, books and fees so you can build your skills to get a better job or earn a higher wage.
TANF Work Study
Would you like to supplement your income with part-time work? You may be eligible for TANF Work Study if you are a WorkFirst student receiving a TANF grant. Let us help you find a position that will utilize your current skills as well as build skills for your future career choice
Integrated College Experience (I.C.E.)
If you are planning to attend Lower Columbia College starting the next quarter, I.C.E. class is a great jumpstart. It will give you a foundation in academics and incorporate life skills. In this twenty hour per week class, you will prepare for college classes while meeting participation hours for WorkFirst. Ask your DSHS WorkFirst Program Specialist how to get into the class or contact the LCC WorkFirst Office.
Job Training – Computer Concepts and Office Skills
Lower Columbia College WorkFirst Office offers you two options for direct job training. If you want to enhance your computer skills or office skills, you have the option to attend either Computer Concepts located at WorkSource or Office Skills located at Lower Columbia College. You will gain skills that make you more employable. Ask your DSHS WorkFirst Program Specialist how to get into the class or contact the LCC WorkFirst Office.
Actual Hours Attendance Reporting
Are you required to report your attendance to the Lower Columbia College WorkFirst Office? All people participating in the WorkFirst program receiving TANF are required to do so. The WorkFirst office at Lower Columbia College can help you with the proper procedures to report your participation hours and answer any questions you might have about attendance.
